Default Germany returning

hi, I was working in Germany paying tax, medical insurance etc, etc. When I was in the process of returning back to the UK I was informed.... that I could claim a refund after two years from the German government for part of the medical insurance if I had not made a claim. I could only claim after two years of been back...

does SE anyone know if this is true or perhaps I’m mistaken for another contribution I maight have been paying... thanks..

Welcome to BE.

Please have a read of the site rules, pale blue bar at the top, and if you have any site realted problems please contact one of the moderators, names in bold at the bottom right of each forum page.

I have asked a mod to move your post to the Moving Back to the UK forum, although perhaps the German forum would be better, the lounge isn't really the place for such discussions as many of the replies could be somewhat irreverent.

Never heard of it. And why would the German government repay you? Seems to me that the insurance company would be the one who should pay if at all. But maybe someone else will know more.

This is a thing, but IIRC, it doesn't apply to you if you are an EEA citizen (may be continue to be resident in the EEA, I'll check with my Aussie other half). This may change post-Brexit.

Never heard of medical aid refund. Pension contributions yes provided you have less than 48 months contributed. You have to apply. Forms can be downloaded.
My experience dates back to 2013. Rules may have changed.
