... and get a list of addresses from "Gelbe Seiten" (Yellow Pages) beforehand. Not a good idea to phone unless your German is adequate to communicate remotely and not face to face.

Erm... Just google "Gelbe Seiten", it came up first when I googled from France! You'd have to find the German equivalent of "plasterer" (and it surely can't be Pflasterer?) and then enter Berlin.

You're welcome! I forgot to mention that you might consider looking for a flat-share (Wohngemeinschaft). Much cheaper than renting alone. My two daughters did this for several years in Berlin until they moved on...

I also forgot to mention that I've never actually lived or worked in Germany, but my daughters have studied and worked (and one still does work) in Berlin. I won't swear to it, but I think plasterer might be "Gipsarbeiter" (literally gypsum worker).
If you don't get much response on the BE forum, you might try "Toytown".

Stukateur or Gipser are the German expressions. The job may be a bit different to the work traditionally done in Britain by a plasterer
Have you tried a google search under expressions like "construction jobs, berlin"

Pflasterer is a recognised skill and used name for your type of work.
Flexability of boarding and installation coverings, might be requested.
Plus if you see vacancies for Mauer/putzer, they might just need pflasterers
One should look at agencies looking for ' Bauarbeiter'
Agencies might be you best bet, especially giving you time to pick up
on your German. The German colleagues on site will accept you when
you show your learning their language, plus Turks, Rumanians, Poles,
'Old country Yugoslavians', will be your work mates and competitors who speak German.
The life and humour, on a German building site is no different to a Brit-site.
Oh and make no mistake they'll drink you under the table..
I have no names now but there were a few years ago brit-agencies who
worked Berlin.

Just a site that might help you....

Blauarbeit.de... It puts you on a list.Actually you put yourself on the list.
Thought behind this, just kicks it off, no promises, but see how the 'lay of the land' is.
Plus there is a contact nr,.. be clever ,.... if they speak English they could help you further.
Ask indirect questions on your work.

TONY, 1ST I want to apologise profusely....

I let a friends teenage son answer this question without controlling his reply..
So 1st his general post isnt bad, he asked me about agencies, and posted
using my basic answer, So his info about agencies is OK.
BUT...
Yes Pflasterer is a trade, but no straight forward translation.
Pflasterer actually lays pathways, street stones etc ,even garden walls.

AN EQUIVILANT TO plasterer for wall/Rendering is "Verputzer" or "Gipser"
Some will want you to of worked with a maschine, as well as free hand.

Sorry if it caused misunderstanding...Funny thing is, he got it right on foreigners
you could share your work and beers with...
If Berlin is not the must, and you are flexable of location, widen your search through
Germany.Verputzer is a job often advertised for, not sure on promises of
permancy. Many are project or only season work offered.

Thanks for the correction, I was beginning to have doubts as to my capacities in German!
Sorry, it was Scot47 who said Gipser, but my "Gipsarbeiter" wasn't far off!
