I have a maison secondaire in Charente region.
i stay regularly for weeks at a time.
i have no phone line at the house and use a freesat box for tv.
we lose connection during heavy rain etc.
i wondered what the options and costs would be to have wifi at the house so that i can stream tv etc, broadband really.
any information will be gratefully received.

Unless you want a standard broadband connection, (i.e.. DSL or possibly Fibre) a 5g Modem is a good option if you have a decent mobile signal.
There are plenty available. Most mobile providers have them along with a card deal.

As for the satellite you might want to have the positioning of your dish checked as well as the wiring. A larger dish set up correctly will give you a better reception. ( 85cm and above) The tiny UK dishes are no good.

Hi, I agree with calman014. You can get a dish of 130cm. Most people situated further south towards the Spanish border, need a much larger dish. It can only help.

I use a 4g Modem. The download speed is very variable. Sometimes the upload is faster than the download. I assume it is because there are too many users on the network.

Depending on the location of your property and the line of sight to a 5g antenna, you could experiment with positioning the router within the property, normally to the highest point possible.

External antennas that can boost the signal are also available for a decent price these days.

If you are only having reception problems in the rain then that would suggest that the wiring has perished or the transponder(the thing in the middle of the dish that collects the signal that bounces off the dish) has cracked meaning that water gets in shorting it out.
I agree with others get yourself a modem but check with neighbours which provider gives you a good signal in your area.

Because without a good strong mobile network signal to feed the device its a non-starter. And of course using it for full time TV viewing will gobble up data allowance quickly.
