What's the best way of getting British Food?
 

I am living/working in Meuse (55). It's very rural here and I am really missing some of my home comforts - foodwise.

I've seen online companies that sell and deliver food from the UK, but the P&P seem very steep.

Have you any ideas/recommendations out there?

Hi, haven't you got an Intermarché, Auchan, Géant Casino or the like nearby? Even in our back of the woods there are international food sections, although I personally only buy Marmite if no one brings any over. I thought at the beginning that I'd never survive without a lot of British foods, but it's a sign of integrating when you start not to miss them!:)

That's very true. I now love the taste of traditional Saucisse de Toulouse and other types of charcuterie that I would have turned my nose up at years ago.

The supermarkets near me are all very small and not that much choice!
I live in a departement where there are 5 cows for every inhabitant lol

Thanks davy. Had a look at site and its good. Definately gonna order stuff. Making a list now. £8.99 is not bad for p&p - I know some charge £15 or more and 25kg is a lot of goodies.

Agree with what dmu and Tweedpipe talk about. You are near the Belgium and German borders, so you likely get a far wider choice of international foods than many. Because we live in a French/Brit/Belgium/German holiday hotspot there are certainly many choices, including a UK section in the Hyper/Super U chain.
dmu a Marmy fan, well I never. I have managed to let it go and enjoy when back in UK; at one time I was a saddo and woofed it with crunchy peanut butter!:eek:!!!

I must admit that, when I visit family in England, I go on a binge of English sausages, fish and chips, steak and kidney pie, and all the old-fashioned puddings you can think of, but I don't yearn for it all here in France.... (and I think I could even let Marmite go, if pushed, but it's healthy!):)

This reminds me of one of my daughters' (French) pals who came to tea after school and spread Marmite on her tartine, thinking it was a strange form of Nutella. You can imagine the face she pulled upon the first bite!

That made me laugh. I know babies have a problem getting to grips with the sharp taste, so can imagine - Nutella V Marmite; now there's a debate. :D

Here in Paris we now have an M&S of course...Chicken Jalfrezi (that British staple), sausages, back bacon, pork pies, chipsicks, cheesey tasters, percy pigs...I could go on. I love the food here in France but it's nice to have some home comforts on tap too.

I make my own curries but you can't but hot chilli's here. So I get people to bring chilli's over and I freeze them. The other things we ask people to bring is Clipper tea and oxo cubes. That's about it.

I do miss English sausages loads, still haven't quit got to grips with French sausages. There is an English shop about 20 minutes but everything costs a fortune in there, 5e for a pack of bacon! so we don't really go there any more.

We go home soon and I think the first thing I'll do is have some proper white bread toast.

You can get hot chillies over here, you've just got to look for them !!!

I actually produce chillies here in the south, could send you some of you pm me your address.

bacon and hp sauce are the two things i miss the most. But now make my own bacon (v.v.v.v.v.easy, will give smoking a go in the autumn) though still searching for hp :confused:

I have a complicated but AMAZING recipe (very very close to the real thing) for brown (hp) sauce ... it is one of my biggest sellers to french and english alike!
