Default Wanted: Someone to transport car

Greetings,

Recently, I found a classic car which needs to be transported to the UK from nearby Allos (04260) in the French alps.

Maybe someone is even returning to the UK with an empty trailer! The car is small and light.

Failing that maybe someone knows an English speaking mechanic around Allos to prepare it to pass the CT?

Any contacts would be most welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you

Does a classic car need a CT?

In fact there is no obligation to display the vignette on ANY car, be it collection or not.

That is interesting. We purchased a Citroen DS 1971 , 4 months ago. Nothing was mentioned to us at the Prefecture about this contrôle Allégé? Surely that is classed as a classic car as it states cars older than 30 years old. It had a CT when we purchased it.

Presumably it's a French car in which case its only becomes vehicule de collection if you change it to that otherwise it's carte grise normale and subject to CT every two years.

Being over 30 years old simply entitles it to be registered as VdC but it's up to the owner to change it.

If it is vehicule de collection it will say so on the carte grise under Z.1 and under X.1 will state the date of the next CT which will be 5 years from the date of the current one.

IVV can you provide a link to support your argument ?

If true then what is the point of the vignette and why do CT stations automatically stick it on the window ?

I am sure that I read somewhere that it is an obligation of the CT station to attach the new vignette to the car and they are not allowed simply to hand the vignette to the owner.

Vignette CT sur pare brise : obligatoire ? - Divers - Vie Pratique - FORUM Pratique
No source is given, but it appears to be compulsory, like the little green Insurance slip. Our CT station automatically sticks the vignette on, either immediately or after a Contre-Visite.

Not to mention they remove the vignette before testing the car and if the car lacks one every time you pass a gendarme you will get flagged down.

It's one of those wonderful French paradoxes. The CT agent is obliged to put the sticker on the windscreen but the owner is not obliged to leave it there.

This forum discusses it in some detail:-

There seems to be some lack of consensus the site you linked to IVV but the bottom line is that not affixing the vignette to the windscreen is likely to result in being pulled in by the gendarmes so it makes little sense to not display it whether you are legally required to or not.
