Just wondering if my colleague can find somewhere in France that does UK MOT's?

With the predicted virus restrictions, traveling back to the UK in time to meet her MOT date by early May may not be allowable, and then pondering the possible restriction to travel back to re-enter Europe, or France.


Any suggestions very welcome.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question but MOT stations are registered by DVLA?? and they are unlikely to register somewhere outside the jurisdiction of the UK.
Could you imagine a controle technique centre in the UK?

If she lives in the UK she can return to her country of residence. If necessary she should contact the British Embassy but in theory people can (and should) be returning home.
If she lives in France, she shouldn't be pi55ing about in a UK reg car that needs an MoT in the first place.
It's when things go unexpectely pear shaped that people who have been merrily flouting the rules tend to come unstuck. Not saying this is your colleague's situation of course, it's just a general observation but if the cap fits...

Stay put wait it out, I don't think CT's are considered essential so I doubt any of the places are open more specifically an MOT is only issued in the UK for a UK registered car if it was being changed to French plates that would be OK for a CT.

You won’t be able to get a UK MOT in France. Your friend should register the car in France if she’s living there full-time.

Don't worry about it. If she is stopped by the Gendarmes they would be more interested in has she got her authority to be outside in her car. If she is going back to the UK then she can get to an MOT station when the laws are relaxed after the current problems are over.
Frankly there are more important things to worry about at the moment and IF she is one of the idiots who continue to run UK reg cars when they should have transferred to French plate at the DRIRE then tough luck.

Your colleague is presumably a tax-resident in France if she's working. In which case, as said above, she should have registered her car in France....
Registering it now would probably be the simplest solution to the problem (provided there wasn't a deadline to do so after arrival), and she can get the C.T. done locally.)
If there's a possibility of getting to the UK over or under the Channel before the due date, it's unlikely that she'd have problems with the gendarmes on the way, provided she's carrying the Attestation, indicating that she's "returning home".
P.S. She must be resident in France, since you yourself spoke about the possible restriction to her re-entering France....

Thanks for the info, she has a French contract that is 6 months on and 6 months off - that time when is she is in the UK.

A German friend somehow managed to get his German plated car with a valid "German MOT" equivalent near Lyon without driving back to Germany, so wondered if someone is doing something similar in France for UK cars.

The Technische Uberpruefungs Verein (German equivalent of CT/MOT authorities), have some locations in France https://www.tuv.com/france/fr/ . DVLA doesn't.

I cannot find anything about TÜV testing outside of Germany. But I do know the Dutch have APK testing facilities outside of the Netherlands.
MOTs can only be done in the UK. Even one from a testing station in Gibraltar is not acceptable for a UK registered vehicle.
Whilst members are saying don't worry I wonder when the vehicle tax runs out. That could also be an issue. NO MOT no re-taxing.
Ensure there are no clauses in the policy which voids the insurance if there is no MOT.
Are there not APNR cams at ferry ports?

That is not for the yearly road worthiness tests. That is for product testing.

Providing the tax is still valid, your friend could drive the car directly from the ferry port to a local MOT test centre even after the MOT has expired.

They were being stripped from shelves because of selfish idiots trying to profit from other people's misery, hope your suggestion was a joke and you didn't really mean the OP's friend did the same. Thankfully the supermarkets have all now imposed a limit on how many people can buy, so no problem getting hold of them now in most places.
