Of course, I was always very careful whenever I used this word, so loved by the Toulousains and others in the south, and Provence. I never, ever used it in Paris or elsewhere north of Toulouse. As most probably know, said in a pleasant fashion in certain areas only, it's similar to the salutation "mate" or "dude". Said in other ways it can be a gross insult.
After working a number of years in Toulouse, when I moved to the Paris area (Orly, then Roissy) I really missed the daily salutation I had become so used to. When returning to Toulouse occasionally on business it was a welcoming pleasure again to be greeted with, "Bonjour! Comment ça va con?"
