Hello
I have just been made redundant from my job here in Edinburgh.
I am a six month Scottish qualified lawyer (was working in corporate).
I'm thinking very seriously about moving to France with my two children (I speak basic French and I'm currently taking French lessons). I did live in France many years ago for a six month period so my French is probably better than I think!
Are there any Scottish/English/Northern Ireland lawyers currently working in France who could advise me re the market in France and/or point me in the right direction re seeking employment?
I so don't want to stay in Edinburgh without work and believe the UK is a pretty dire market at the moment...
Thanks,
Caroline

I know of a barrister that lives in France, but I don't think he is a member here sorry.

My girlfriend works for an English law firm in Paris called Lovells. They work in corporate law, although I don't know how easy it is to obtain work in this field as corporate law firms in the UK are being affected badly by the recession (as you've possibly just experienced firsthand unfortunately), and the same is true in France.

Spoke to my partner and she says you might stand much better luck trying an American law firm in France. They're not being hit nearly as bad, and a few of their lawyers have jumped boat and moved to American company's instead.
