Default Supermoderators beware!

An interesting case is reported in the French press today concerning the website T411 which has been taken down by the authorities for disseminating various BitTorrent URL's.

The supermoderators on this site (based in Rennes) have been taken in by police for questioning.

It makes one wonder where legal responsibilty lies when information published on a forum (whether open or closed) provides assistance to someone who subsequently breaks the law.

How did they even find out who these supermoderators were?

Or perhaps not....the administrator and supermods have now been arrested and are expected to be extradited to face charges.

I supermoderate a Kodi tech forum where tips and techniques for downloading and streaming get exchanged, so like many other I find this situation rather disturbing.

I think the media industry is way behind the curve on this issue. Most people would prefer to pay for their iPlayer and Exodus media access but can't because of an archaic media licensing system based on geographical criteria.
