Default Shipping direct into France?

Hi, on previous moves to France we have either come from the UK or last time we flew just a few(well 15 or so) boxes air-freight out of Sydney and straight into Toulouse (Jetta if anyone ever needs to know!) and both times we left we drove our stuff to the UK (was impossible to find anyone to ship us from the south of France!).

My questions are has anyone shipped gear into France? what is the procedure when it arrives at port? What are the port duties and import duties like? where can I find more out about it?

I have found a company here that will let us put a big box trailer straight on the container so we can just roll off at the other end but I know it won't be quite as easy as that at the port so would love to hear of anyone's experiences?
