Default Power of Attorney

We are currently in the final phase of buying a property. We have secured a mortgage and asked for Power of Attorney on the day of signing. We've been told by our representative at Papillon Properties (our slightly unhelpful and lazy 'English' agent) that the Notaire says we need to be there to sign the loan document. After questioning our need to be there on the day he's told us the 'rules' have changed!
Does anybody have any advice as to whether this statement is true and whether we need to be there on the day?

Not sure about France but surely the words mean what they say "power of attorney"
We sold a house in UK and gave the solicitor power of attorney to sign for us.

You can also give power of attorney at the bank which my wife has for her dad which would able that person to also sign any mortgage docs if your getting the morg here. When you signed the comprimi was power given to someone then as this is when it needs to be done as my wife was given power at the first signing so that she could complete the purchase whilst he was in the uk but there was no mortgage involved and this was 6 months ago

regards

to recap power of attorny needs to be given at each individual institution. and you would have to prove to the notaire that the person can sign mortgage doc on you behalf a bank would be able to provide you with this.
