Possible travel ban between France and UK starting today...
Several European countries (Belgium, Netherlands, etc) have just banned flights and trains to/from the UK effective immediately due to concerns over the new Covid strain. France is reportedly considering the same. I was due to travel back by ferry before Christmas - not looking good... :'-(

My partner is due to join me by train on Christmas Eve as well. I agree. This is not looking good.

According to a source there will be a 48 hour ban on travel between the UK and France from midnight tonight. I guess more details will be forthcoming very shortly. If the information is correct travel will be allowed again on the 22nd December based on mandatory testing at the start of the journey.

France's ban is short compared to other countries. I think Italy won't be allowing incoming travel from UK until the second week in January. 🚗🚓🚕🚙🚎🚟🚡🚃✈️🛩⛵️ 🚀🚤🛳🐎🐪🐘🐌🕷🐬🏃🏻

The tunnel and the port of Dover have been closed for at least 48 hours according to sources.

Spain is still open; as of this morning anyway. I had better get across the border for some last minute shopping! Seems odd that people can still go to Spain from Britain on the Ferry or fly and then freely cross into France! I expect someone will 'twig' it soon!

People should really stay home instead of spreading the virus to other countries. Shopping can be done online.

Dont worry lads, boris is sending over UK Navy to unblock border.
Still not sure how will that work with tunnel.

My own view is that whatever Boris does people here will say he is wrong. This despite most of the world is doing the same or similar things as the U.K.. It is so easy to criticise; particularly when not coming up with a creditable alternative themselves. A shame people want to denigrate their own country whilst never apportioning their views properly and fairly.

Putting down politicians is something done in every country of the world, it doesn't mean a person is denigrating their whole country just because of a few political jibes.

Just to explain the Bob the Builder quip, anyone who doesn't currently live in the UK and follow the daily media here may not be aware of Johnson's weekly fancy dress photo ops. No matter what crisis may be happening or how complex the political situation, or what travel restrictions are in force, at least once a week the PM (who is silent and invisible for much of the time, leaving most of the press conferences and media announcements to his ministers) finds time to do a PR visit somewhere in the UK, which almost invariably involves visiting a factory or a lab or a school or a warehouse or building site, and dressing up for the part. So we have pictures of him in a lab coat peering at a test tube, sitting on the floor of a school classroom with his hand up, sitting at the wheel of a JCB etc etc ad nauseam https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=bo...h=657&biw=1366
It's become a running gag in the UK.
Although it might be funnier if people weren't aware that Johnson employs his own personal photographer on a salary of £100,000 a year paid from public funds, in addition to the Cabinet photographer on a public funded salary of £60k a year, on top of the vast amount spent on PR agencies and image consultants. Whether or not that is a better use of public funds than certain other causes that the government has declined to support, I make no comment.
As for the rest KJMW I don't see anything on this thread where anybody has denigrated the UK or said Johnson is wrong, could you point it out to me please?
For the record, IMHO Johnson is a man with very little moral fibre or compassion or respect for others, I don't think he's an admirable person nor a good PM and I don't see why I should pretend I do, just because one of his passports happens to be the same colour as mine. But, I am perfectly capable of giving credit when due to people I don't like, and also of criticising people I do like when they do things I think are wrong.

Anyway
Predictably it didn't take long for Spain to stop travel from the UK, so all we can do now is wait and see what arrangement the EU announces today.
It must be squeaky bum time for any Brits who were planning a very last-minute move to beat Brexit, I hope nobody gets left behind.
