no MOT car stuck in France

Re: no MOT car stuck in France
New posters sometimes disappear after posting a query when they do not like the answers. Cyberspace version of sticking your hands over your ears.
I see that this OP (Jack Russell) did come back. I hope he resolves his problem. After Brexit we will see a lot more problems like this intensified by the lunacy of leaving the EU.

This problem can be resolved so easily-just register it in France You can find calculators on line to determine the cost No need for a company or other complicated manoeverings A quick trip to Cartaplac or a similar company and they will walk you through it and advise re what papers you want

Re: no MOT car stuck in France
I see contradictory statements regarding non-residents registering a car in France on other websites, some say it is possible some say it is not.
It appears that some prefecture offices did it as long as you had a French address and although not strictly legal they did it.
Now things have gone online it is a bit more difficult but again I find contradictory statements.
I tried registering on France Connect but I am not allowed to with a UK passport.
I have been told that a garage might be able to do it but I don't want to be done over.
PS. I agree with the lunacy of Brexit

The nearest equivalent to Cartaplac was 35 km away, and I ended up doing it on-line myself, despite my disability (mental, I suffer from chronic illectronism). But I remember having to be registered on France Connect (for the Tax Office, Ameli, etc...) to have access to the Service on-line.
Since it appears that different Préfectures have different rules, ask the Préfecture of the 06 (by telephone or mail) what the rules are there, and then decide what to do.

Re: no MOT car stuck in France
Car registration is all done through ANTS now, so different préfectures having different rules is irrelevant since the préfecture is not involved.
If you're not resident in France you may not be able to go through the process on ANTS yourself. The public service online services are basically designed for the benefit of residents.
But a lot of people who could do the process themselves on ANTS if they wanted to, choose not to, because it's a bit of a faff. There are many mainstream operators, including but not only garages, who provide this service for a small fee. They won't all handle imports but a lot will. I don't know why you think you would be "done over".

Thanks for the comments and just to clarify a few things.
First, the car is taxed and registered to a UK address. The insurance I have had up to now has been a specialist insurance for a UK car being kept overseas so that is not a problem.
However, if I had to make a claim of any sort they would demand to see a current MOT certificate and without that the claim would be denied. OK, it satisfy the French police should I be stopped but I would be driving around totally unprotected.

I have driven around Europe for many years from Portugal to Bulgaria on basic third party insurance but then i don't pay much for my cars.

I am guessing the insurance is with a company whose initials start A.C., if so he is a bit of a law unto himself.

Or just re-register it here as he suggested in his first post, if he's planning on leaving it here after Brexit.
If he has a holiday home there shouldn't be a problem.
There is no need to ask a full time resident to register it in their name, which could create problems for them (including with the fisc, if they take it into their heads to suspect it's an expensive gift that hasn't been declared, or to wonder how they paid for it. France's public info system is very joined up compared to the UK and a person's tax records/vehicle records/etc are all linked). Setting up a business in France just so that you can register a car, makes no sense whatsoever. Not sure what the rules are about non residents setting up businesses in France and in any case if the OP has only a UK passport he would not have the automatic right to pursue any economic activity in France after 31.12.20.
Either do as dmu says, get that one transported back to the UK and buy a French car, or re-register it in France.

Hello, I am resident in France since Novermber 2020 insured by a French insurance company and my plan was to return to UK to sell my car about now, however that has been scuppered by covid. Is there a firm that will take my car from France and deliver it to an address in the UK without my having to accompany it? Thanks for suggestiions

Here's a website where you can offer a transport job to those looking for work. The offers come from people and companies who are rated as to past perfomance, so a resonable guide as to what you can expect. I know there are a number of vehicle transport companies who regularly bid for work, you don't have to accept any offer that is sent to you.
They are UK based but operate throughout Europe, you may have to wait a week or two for people to arrange a backload. I am not connected but have used these services a few times, it's an excellent system and simple to operate.
One tip: After submitting a rerquest wait at least 24 hours to get all your offers in, it may be longer for international transport. The price tends to fall as the bids come in but of course the cheapest is not always the best or worst.
Good luck.
Note: Just learnt that as I am new to the forum I am not allowed to paste weblinks yet. The company is shiply and if you put .com behind the name you will get them
