Moving/brexit/???
Hi Expats..
I know there is no proper answer to this question at the moment.
But, just using your gut feeling.....
If you were an inactif with regular income from the UK, in a position to afford some health insurance for a year - in order to join the French system hopefully after 3 months, no children or spouse etc
and could afford a house (by selling a property) in France....
Would you go for it or..
Is the risk from Brexit unknowns too great.
I know this is just a gut thing, but I wonder what folk out there would do in the circumstances of the UK leaving
even with no deal...
OK thanks, in advance, for any thoughts, warnings, ideas
best

Re: Moving/brexit/???
Hi
My personal opinion is that life existed before the EU and it will exist after Brexit.
I would strongly consider renting somewhere in France and keep my capital intact in case I needed to return to the UK.
Property is not an investment in France and if you rent then you have the flexibility to move to another area if you get bored with your original choice or if you have a sudden urge to return to the UK (it does happen) then it would be simpler.
You could keep your current property in the UK and rent it out to give an additional income which would probably cover your rent in France.
By renting you have a certain amount of protection/flexibility from Brexit unknowns.
HTH

Check the rules for non-EU nationals wishing to do what you want. If you meet the criteria then go for it.

BritInParis, Cyrian.
Thanks for your replies. Non EU nationals...what has the uk done?? But yes good idea.
Renting is definitely worth some thought.
Thank you both very much.

There must be hundreds of thousands of Brits in the position you describe, who are not going to "go for it', simply because they have no desire to live in France.
Surely, whether one "goes for it" or not, depends entirely on how strong your reasons/desire to live in France are. Irrespective of Brexit, "Because I can" is not a reason.
IMHO.

Ooh, that's a good post.
Makes one really think.....
You're right, Brexit is a non issue if the desire is strong etc.
Need to look inside and examine that a bit..
Thanks ET
