moving back to Uk

Hi
im new to this site. i have been living in france for 10 yrs and have found it very hard. i have been seperated from my husband for a year now ( who loves living in france ) and have been living with my 2 children in a french flat. im thinking about returning home and staying at my mums until i get myself sorted back home, while doing this and this is the hardest bit, leaving my 2 children with their dad. even though this would be hard it would only be temporary. i was just wondering if there is anyone else on here that feels the same. i could do with a friend, it has been a very lonely and difficult life for me out here.

Hi, and welcome to the forum! Sorry it's under such circumstances, but you've come to the right place for friendly advice.
How old are your children? You must be very careful as to your legal situation and must sort it out in writing with an Avocat before you return to the UK. Otherwise, if there are divorce proceedings here, you risk being considered as "abandoning" them which a French judge wouldn't take too kindly. Without a Court Judgment in your favour, their father could refuse to let you take them to the UK to live....
Others will come along with advice about who to contact for support, but you must consult a professional. Whereabouts do you live?
Hope this helps!:)

Rumney, I just wanted to say welcome too. Life in France can be wonderful, but when you have a problem it can seem a scary and isolated place. Although the physical distance isn't great, it can seem an awful long way when you want to be elsewhere.

I would echo dmu's caution. Do nothing until you have found reliable professional information. Very best of luck!

You must go and see a social worker before making such a decision.

As previously posted, how old are the children and is their father likely to want them to stay in France permanently with him? If so, you must sort this out officially or you could lose custody.

Sound advice here. What do your children feel, what thoughts, opinions do they have? Are you and your husband amicable? Are you able to talk this through without acrimony? To create a way forward you can both agree on? Your present feeling of being isolated and alone, even though you have your children does not surprise me. Separation and the ramifications of such are tough enough in your 'home' country...
Stalwarts on this forum, such as dmu, MillieF and Garonne may be available in a personal off-post contact. If you don't want to share the finer details here; that may be worth thinking about. As dmu says you are in the right place. And welcome.
