Do you think they confused this with a heated swimming pool? Did they seem experienced or was there a sign of some with arm bands?

:rofl: oh, really, just thinking about that is making me squirm  it does work though, they make for the heat, gets rid of some of them at least. And I will be stocking up on salt too.........

When we were looking at farms in Scotland, we were told, in all seriousness, that where there are a lot of ticks and they are a problem on cattle, the farmers fence the cattle in the farmyard and at certain times of the day the ticks drop off and they send in the hens to pick them up and eat them

Off topic but on a similar theme, years ago my wife and I went for a hike in the rainforests in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney. After about an hour I noticed something on the back my wife's leg and we stopped to check it, we realised that both of our legs were covered in leeches and many more were trying to burrow through our socks and some were even getting through the canvas on the sides on my trainers. We spent a miserable quarter of an hour de-leeching each other before a couple of local hikers wearing proper leg gaiters came by. They said that since it had been dry for weeks and then suddenly rained the night before, the leeches were in a frenzy. Their advice: "run!". So we ran all the way back to the car (up mountain, couldn't do that now) giggling like kids and only picked up one or two of the buggers. That was the last hike my wife ever did in Australia.

Few more thoughts based on observation. Terrier is keen to root round inside a large Pampas grass, poss source; also access to adjoining property where she retrurns often with leg and muzzle ticks. I'm told ticks can create 'nests' but I have no info on this.
Ticks now appear to be front head/legs only, few bodies, though couple have been white, perhaps having not taken up blood as yet. Just looked up tablets vet gave (Therios 300mg), these are specific for skin issues, such as scab type wounds that our girl is suffering from; nasty hole type wounds left in skin.
Still taking off 3-6 a day at moment. Some have dropped off and I wonder if this is to do with the treatment given on scruff (not Frontline) by vet.
Yet to catch French neighbour to get wider opinion.

The day our little one picked up 22 tiques the vet told us she had disturbed a nest. I'm not sure they change colour when they are full of blood, I just think they come in a variety of attractive shades. We usually find the larger grey ones are the most greedy. Explode well under pressure though!
