We're concerned about reports of areas being cold and windy and would like to find out more information (as the reason we're moving to France is for a warmer and sunnier climate!).

Can anyone give us any pointers.. we're arriving into Perpignan and have booked our second week in Languedoc but we're not sure where to spend our first week.

We're back in France in January (Limoges area) so we are very open to information.

Thanks in advance

The Midi is pretty broad in types of weather here in Ariege the rain seems to go up as well as side ways were as Aude it mainly falls in between the hot and windy bits the closer to the coast you get the more like its living in a hair drier. All I can say about winter after 6 years is its like living in an exposed polar bears bum crack. Snow more snow oh and cold rain. And you have to watch out for Tres at the markets

Hi Nita and Linda
I am going in September 2009 for a second tour of these areas.
Just wondering, did you come to any decisions about moving there?

We are actually back in Dordogne now.

We thought Languedoc was too expensive to buy (in the areas we wanted) and didn't get to Midi Pyrenees.

We do love Dordgone though. We are in Monsegur and so far so good.

There are also Monségurs in Les Landes, Lot & Garonne and Pyrénées Atlantiques, but the one in the Dordogne isn't mentioned in my Code Postal book - maybe it's a hamlet attached to another commune?
Or is it Montségur in the Ariège, with the magnificent ruined Cathar castle?

The one in the Gironde is only a few kms from the border with the Dordogne and is just south of the river. It's part of Dordogneshire maybe?

Just up the road, and when you visit you can wash your feet in the thermal spa in Ax les Thermes as well then go gambling in the casino Yeh.

Thanks for the update, I'm glad things are working out okay.

We went to Roquebrun in Hérault last year and found the area and people charming, although the remote villages seemed desrted, it was out of the tourist season. I just feel that the winters are shorter there and it's not too far from the coast!

Looking forward to another visit

But the post did say they didn't get to the Midi Pyrenees so it counts Ariege out.

It was my mistake, we are in Monsegur, Gironde. The one that has the weekend of Jazz in July.

You should come to St Girons, In July the town gets all roads closed to Traffic for a week end and between 8 and 10 stages are put up around the town next to the bars. Loads of music fun evening.
