Default La Poste-again

In the last few days we have had several items of post sent by us to the UK returned, despite being correctly addressed and stamped. None has been franked over the stamp but on the reverse, above our return label which we always score through and clearly have De/from at the top.

Our postie, when asked today, said we weren't the only ones. The "new" automatic sorting doesn't recognise such things as stamp, correct side for address or the fact that it is a return label. It only recognises post code.

We asked him if we should stop putting a return address on and he said it would be likely not be accepted without one so advised against.

La Poste website is no help.

Anyone else had this problem or suggestions to improve matters??

No but occasionally (especially at Xmas) I forget to write our address on the back of the envelopes and never has one been returned.

I have never written a return address on a letter unless it's AR or colissimo that is typically the only time I interact with counter staff because they all tend to say something completely different, just stick it on the automatic stamp machine and then bung it it the slot.

One person told me a 1 Meter long packet was too big, La Poste had delivered it and it was being returned. I had to return with a print out from their website with the maximum dimensions before the person would accept it.

I've had two poste restante letters delivered to the wrong post office letters and at least one that didn't arrive and that in five months. I'm still waiting for my new car insurance policy which runs out at the end of the month (but fortunately they e mail it to me if there is a postal problem

Maybe if you write the return address in a colour invisible to their scanner. Green or red may work.

Alternatively write it on a sticky label which has a confusing background, maybe silver or bright red.
