OH says that the départements must have been numbered just after the 2nd World War, because cars started to be registered with the département numbers at that time.
After that interlude, maybe we should get back to the OP now?

I have heard about TWIGS (or something like that)...anyone been?????
Hi, my brother in law & family are based near Toulouse for work (Airbus) and his wife is a member of an english speaking society down there who organise trips etc and she has been able to make friends that way. She never mentioned the name of it but I googled it and i think its called 'TWIG' - Toulouse International Women's Group http://www.twigsite.org/. She loves the life there and when I went to visit, the countryside and villages were beautiful. Hope this might be a start for you.

hi there
we have been here for about a year now;
there are loads of things you can do

TWIG is ok - depends what you are in to - I found it a little like going to women's institute!

if you want to meet people and learn french many people go to place capitole to alliance francaise ( stand with your back to the town hall and it is on the other side of the square on the left ) They do good french lessons etc.

If your husband is airbus, i believe they have a good social club (though i cant confirm this as my husband is a contractor!)

If you just want to get out and about; or need to chat to someone local and english, feel free to contact me at my email
