Iphone 4
Hi
I know this has probably been asked sooooo many times, but I couldn't find a definitive answer to all my questions. Sorry in advance!
Ok, I'm gathering monthly contracts are pretty expensive here compared to uk. So am wondering about buying an iphone from apple shop in uk.
Firstly will that work over here, or are they locked to uk providers?
Secondly, do Orange do a payg microsim? How much is it, what do you get? Is Orange best network etc?
I've looked on the websites, but don't speak any french yet, and they're not seeming to work in google translate.
Thanks in advance

Re: Iphone 4
Perhaps should have mentioned, its mainly for data use and texting. it won't be used for loads of calls.
We're fairly near Switzerland as well.
Going to really embarrass myself here probably; but does that count as roaming; ie costs a fortune.

If you buy an iPhone in the UK with a contract with a UK provider then I'm fairly sure it'll be network locked. If you then take that phone to France, that counts as roaming, and you'll get billed huge amounts of money for data usage.
If you buy an iPhone in France with a contract with a French provider then it'll also be network locked, but will give you unmetered data usage in France. (But be careful near the Swiss border!) If you opt for this then I'd recommend doing it in an Apple Store – there's one in Lyon – since you get to try the phone out first.
You can ask for any French network-locked phone to be unlocked for free after you've had it for a few months.
You can buy an unlocked iPhone in either country, but you have to pay the full SIM-free price.
