I still think if the exit happened it would be phased and arrangements have to be made for expats caught in the cross fire. As a moot question how long do you have to rest under the radar in France as an illegal immigrant to have a right to remain if you do? The UK used to be 14 years but it changed to long stay and proving the facts I think.

Seriously, even the 'specialists', those highly paid economists, politicians etc, fail to agree on exactly what the outcome would be.
My own view, which is hardly worth un pet de moineau, is that the EU is just using the country to feed on like a vampire. One needs the other but not vice-versa.
I'm currently looking on LeBonCoin for a good, used crystal ball, so I may have something more definitive to add in a short while.
