Handicap parking

A post I never thought I would need to write

Does anyone know the procedure for applying for a handicap parking permit?

Should I start at the Mairie, the Doctors, the Prefecture or anywhere else?

I'm sorry to hear about your predicament.
Almost certainly start with your doctor. He/she can decide as a first step whether you can benefit from 100% health coverage and then advise re special permits etc.
I wish you all the best and especially 'bon courage'.

Mme TP advises the Marie in the short term, as they should be able to advise immediately - without a €23 down payment.;)

Re: Handicap parking

I have a disabled parking permit. The place to apply for it is the, as stated in the link above, is the Maison Départementale des Personnes Handicapées. There is one in very department.

The best website is always the official one www.service-public.fr.

The relevant page is http://vosdroits.service-public.fr/p...rs/F2891.xhtml

You can download the forms you need and find the address of your MDPH.

You can ask your médecin traitant to complete the medical form for you if they have enough information about your situation. Your consultant would also be able to do it. If necessary, the MDPH will invite you for an assessment with one of their own doctors.

Once your dossier is complete, there is usually a wait of up to several months before your case is presented at the Commission and a decision made.

Depending on your disability, you may also qualify for a Carte Prioritaire, but you must make an application for it at the same time, as nothing is automatic.

Like anything in France, you need to pay very careful attention to having the paperwork in exactly the way it is asked for, with all the supporting documents. If you follow the rules carefully, you will get a result.

Good luck!

Also if you are in the higher band of disability you can get a monthly payment from the Caf but you have to apply for it via the "Maison Départementale des Personnes Handicapées"

Re: Handicap parking

The monthly payment is the AAH (Allocation Aux Adultes Handicapés). You have to have a certain level of disability, and it is a means tested benefit, so if you already have a reasonable income, then you will not receive any money. You have to complete a 'déclaration de ressources' every three months, and the payment is adjusted accordingly, from nothing, to the full amount, which is around 790€.

These days I think that the same form is used for all the applications, and you just tick which ones you are asking for. You will be assessed for each of them individually and get a yes or no letter for each one.

Some of the MDDPH offices can be terribly slow... As on top of the doctors you see they have a panel of reviewers that go over each application and they typically only meet once or twice a year but the panel can stipulate what ever time periods for renewal they like my first was 3 years my second was 5 years.

I believe you go through the Maison départementale des personnes handicapées (MDPH). Here is the link for Dordogne:

Hi,
All the best with your application. Once you've got your macaron, all you'll then need will be to find disabled parking spaces that haven't been squatted by strapping young men or women in perfect health, albeit usually a tad over-weight, usually driving the Audi A3 type of motor, black, with go-faster wheels and of course the now mandatory blacked-out windows.

good luck

Re: Handicap parking

Not many of those types in sleepy Sarlat. It's the 1000's of tourists that mob the town which means if I need to move my car I cannot find a parking space within a 10 minute walk of my place but there is always a disabled spot.
The Town Police are pretty hot on Disabled parking abuse. It's €135 fine.
However you do get foreign plates parking there who get ticketed who know they will never get traced.
