French 'howlers'
Anyone seen (or heard) any genuine howlers in French recently.
I was preparing to put an ad on LBC this morning and checking through current prices of similar Apple laptops I stumbled upon the following, which almost made me expulse a mouthfull of coffee as I found it so amusing. 'Je le vend car je mens serre plus prix négociable.' I must admit my written French leaves a lot to be desired but I immediately recognised the faux-pas, hence my post which may provide a smile for the day. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...e8ce178855.jpg |

My workplace is mainly English-speaking. Social distancing is a problem. When French colleagues complain of lack of distancing, in English, they call it promiscuity.

For those who don't realise, it's a faux-ami. French promiscuité means being obliged to be disagreeably close to others. Not much obligation and usually agreeable in the English promiscuity.... |

Our child’s English teacher is convinced that us brits when pronouncing dates do the full one thousand nine hundred and ninety nine marlarky. Said child was sent back to school to point out that only hobbits and middle earth folk speak like that.
