Default Wanting motor home to tour

Hi my names ken from Australia ..I'm doing some house sitting around France...now I want to buy a motor home to go touring..anyone know any for sale in France..private sellers seem to be cheaper than camping car dealers..a UK motor home would be OK LHD OR RHD I don't mind.
Thanks for any ideas

Are you going to be able to register and tax it if you don't have an address in France that you can prove to be your address?

You should search for "camping car" on https://www.leboncoin.fr/ and http://www.lacentrale.fr/

Most campers for sale are in the north of France (for the obvious reason).

Of course, a private sale would be the cheapest option as the dealers take a huge (up to 30%) margin on resales - just tick the box for "particuliers" on the advanced search.

I recommend you go for something that can be serviced in the commercial vehicle network rather than by specialists.

Camper vans do tend to hold value here although a fair bit of what is on Leboncoin is dealers etc. OP mentions putting UK plates on it for a quick search of Autotrader kicks up some bargains

Yes, all the big name car hire companies also have camping cars in their fleet. And so do many other lesser name companies.

I'm not sure if the same works for camping cars, but as you are a non-EU citizen, you can access some very good deals for long-term lease options, for cars, if you are looking to rent for more than 21 days.

Worth a little Google.

I found a guy who is selling a UK registered Volvo estate so we can do the swap over of ownership via Swansea and I can drive around Europe in the Volvo estate and find a €1,000 caravan to put on the back and €1,000 for the Volvo 2002 model so I'm all set for a very low price of €2,000 much better than a camper

My plan was to go to the UK to look for a campervan but my partner is a Philippine national and the UK would not give her a tourist visa so we can go to the UK and buy a campervan because the UK has no room for real tourists to want to spend money <snip> it would appear the UK is full no room for genuine tourists so we have to get a Schengen Visa and buy a campervan here in Europe and the UK will miss out on a tourist dollars

Hi, I know nothing about motor homes, but, if your Philippine partner is house-sitting with you in France and you both have appropriate visas, then disregard the following: If she intends to join you to "go touring", then research her visa issue, particularly if you're not married.

Her schengen visa runs out on 2nd November so she has to go back to the Philippines. ..sad she can not stay longer.
I might go to Madrid see if she can get a UK visa there.
I asked if she wanted to spend the winter in Morocco but she scared...
