The trouble with Amex is that, for some reason, it is of little use in France because so few businesses take it.

I suppose it depends where you live..I use the Amex both for shopping (my local hypermarket (Hyper U) takes it) and also to buy books, CDs at the FNAC.. But it's true that it is less accepted than CB, mainly because the fees that shops have to pay to Amex are much higher than those for CB..
