Default france staying longer than 3months

Hi All,

I'll be going over to France with my U.S Passport and would like to stay for more than 3 months. From what I heard getting a long stay visa is not very likely. I have heard I can go into a non-EU country like the Chez Republic and when returning to France I get 3 more months. Is this true? Are there any other options? Is it that difficult to get a French Long Stay visa?
Thanks for any advice!

Ben

See: http://www.consulfrance-newyork.org/...isitervisa.htm

in theory you could stay up to 3 months, go to the UK for a while and come back for a further period
