Is England going to "les chiens"?
I was staggered this morning to hear that surgeons are now going to receive bonuses for doing operations well.
What?
Does this mean, that where there is a perhaps less than 50/50 chance of an op being successful, they will start refusing to do it as their performance related pay might be affected? And will they develop it into if someone dies, BANG, you have to pay some back?
Cripes, just don't get ill in this country. I can't see that EVER happening in France.
I can see that working for air traffic control - complete your shift with no mid-airs and get a bonus. Two aircraft collide, whack, only get yer normal pay.
Where's the little symbol for a huge sigh of resignation?

Crikey, now you are scaring me! Do you know, they have decided that when Maggie "the destroyer" Thatcher dies, she will get a state funeral, paid for by the tax payer, to the tune of 3 million pounds?
I am glad not to be a taxpayer, as I would seriously object to contributing to THAT (but at least it would mean she was dead I suppose, every cloud and all that ..................)
Is Sarkozy conservative equivalent then? I never quite got into politics when we were there before, it was at the time of the DeVillepin v Sarkozy contretemps.

Prés. Sarkozy is compared to La Dame de Fer because he's the first French president to stand up to the Syndicats, like Mrs. Thatcher in the 80s.

Re: Is England going to "les chiens"?
Having paid income tax in France since 1970, I've contributed to the state funerals of three presidents, Gaullist and Socialist, but it didn't hurt too much... On the other hand, what was objectionable was to learn, with all French taxpayers, that I had unwittingly helped pay for Prés. Mitterand's mistress and illegitimate daughter's upkeep for years, including their holidays in high-class hotels in Egypt. That did hurt...

The catch with the Thatcher comparison and Sarkozy is that many of the benefits of life in France are dependent on that big state involvement. Break it and France may change and not the way the British here will like?

I personally know so many people first-hand, with NHS horror stories, that the health care in France, does seem rather good in comparison.
I wouldn't say it was all fantastic here. When Sarky came to power I was told, one of his first objectives was to triple his salary!

Progress means Change, Time means Change not all of it good there is no way of pleasing everyone. It's a natural order of events we should all be glad of some change or we could still be living in a world that involves going out and Killing our food with spears and fighting off other cavemen. Thinking of the other thread and testosterone that's what French men remind me of Cavemen.
