Electric blanket
Does anyone know where I can by an electric blanket somewhere in the Aude? None of the bedding or household wares shops seem to stock them as far as I can tell from their often poor websites. I could order one via the internet, but the delivery times can run into december. I was hoping to drive somewhere and pick one up. Don't the french do electric blankets? I would have thought they were essential in some of the mote rural areas.

Re: Electric blanket
CS is correct. Just checked on Amazon.fr and if ordered Prime today, delivery estimated for Fri/Sat. Just in time for the cold spell forecast close to 0deg overnight Fri/Sat in your neck of the woods.
On the other hand, perhaps I should rent out Mme TP. She always has warm feet. ;) |
Re: Electric blanket
LeClerc Castorama Casino all sell them but they are a seasonal item so they may not be on the shelves yet

Re: Electric blanket
Sometimes they have them at Lidl in the specials, very good value if you happen to find one, but you have to time it just right.

Re: Electric blanket
Unfortunately Lidl didn't have any so I ordered one online. Then discovered from the same request on a local facebook group that a shop I had never heard of in Carcassonne does have them in stock, just didn't come up on an internet search as they're not listed on their website. That'll teach me to be more patient as I shiver in bed.
Thanks for the help anyway. |

Thanks for the help anyway. How are others coping with this cold spell? Lots of snow already in the Alps, the Massive Central and the Pyrenees which is almost unheard of in mid Nov. And looking at the forecast, far more to come. |
Re: Electric blanket
When we bought the house in 2018 the ground and first floors had rads and the boiler worked fine. We finally moved our bedroom into the top floor under an uninsulated roof late in the summer. With all the other work I never got around to extending the CH up there. We'll brave it out and eventually move into the spare room on the first floor. Next year I'll fit new rads for the winter. I checked out some cheap electric oil filled rads as a temporary fix, but I'm slightly wary of the electrics with no circuit breakers anywhere in the house. I've got an electrician coming to give me a price on making it all safer so we'll see what he says. Cold doesn't bother us too much, but cold and wet can get in the way of a life.

Shiver in bed? You mean you have no effective indoor heating? In the winter season here it does come as a shock to some expats how cold it can become in the SW. Which is even more reason to ensure that adequate heating is installed in a property prior to purchase. In an attempt to keep the shivers, colds & flu at bay, we've always ensured that adequate funds are available to keep the house very well heated. Warm as toast at the moment, but the heating is programmed to shut off at 11pm and restart at 6am which works fine for us.
