Re: Dover - Calais
Why would being a motorhome or having a trailer make any difference Apart from the fare would cost more of course.
And with a trailer if it was loaded it would depend what it was loaded with. But the same goes for cars.
Not sure what you're asking... what kind of issues are you thinking of?

Being charged VAT on... what, exactly?
If you have valuable stuff with you that you bought in the UK and it looks newish and they think you're going to leave it in Spain/France/ for your own use, or sell it, then yes they can charge you VAT. But it wouldn't make any difference if you were transporting it in a motorhome or on a trailer or in a car. Though obviously you can get more stuff into a motorhome. And knowing that they might be more inclined to take a look to see what you got.
Surely they weren't charging them VAT on their motorhomes!

Oh right.
They can, unfortunately. But you should be able to reclaim the VAT when you take the item back on your return trip.
I brought my ebike over to France with me in my campervan earlier this year, not very long after Brexit in fact. I was actually expecting to have to pay VAT on it so I had the purchase receipt with me all prepared. But they never asked what was in that massive great big black bag.
I get the impression that Spain is more inclined to do this sort of thing than France is.
