document translations?
 

Wondering if anyone can recommend an agency in Paris that will do certified translations of French documents into English. We're applying to UK Immigration and want to get things like Carte de Sejour, etc translated.

We understand that they generally charge an arm and a leg, hoping to get through this without being fleeced too badly.

Promolang in Toulouse are regularly used by us all there. Not too pricey from what I remember either...€30 ish per document. You could just send stuff to them and their turnaround is quick too.

Davron Translations are a small company based in Paris specialising in translating official documents and IMHO they offer a good service and are pleasant to deal with, the girl you usually speak to is called Camille.

BP if this is for the British authorities, do you know what their requirements are? It might be cheaper to get it done in the UK.

Hi, the OP was asking about translations into English. If you need a traducteur assermenté for documents into French, you can only use the official ones listed in the Tribunaux or Commissariats (or Pages Jaunes) and it's their Stamp which costs an arm and a leg, not simply the actual translation.

French translators (non assermenté) usually charge from 6 cents a word upwards and most have a minimum flat fee. UK translators may well have lower rates, but then there's the exchange rate to take into account, so probably works out not much different at the end of the day.

Obviously if you use a freelance translator it's significantly cheaper than going through an agency - but an agency will normally have every translation proofread as well. So to a large extent you get what you pay for.

it's for the Home Office, so no need to be 'traducteur assermenté'.

I'm so excited after so many years I will be finally able to claim my british passport :thumbsup: (my parents were not married when I was born and never got married so was not able to claim british nationality)

when we got married here way back in 1996 we had all our joint papers ( birth certs, divorce etc) translated at the British Embassy in Paris no prob.
May have changed now like getting new passports.

If a birth, marriage or death took place in France then you can get free multilingual versions of birth, death and marriage certificates from the mairie when the event was registered.

Formule A = Birth
Formule B = Marriage
Formule C = Death

BP you could also try the moving back to the UK forum. Lots of people there must have had similar issues
