Diagnostic Report Woes π©
Just received the Diagnostic Report on an old (inhabited )property we are hoping to buy. There is unsurprisingly evidence of woodworm and various rot. We know that surveys are not commonplace in France but we are wondering whether we should have further checks made to determine the extent and severity of damage to wood etc?
We are a week or so away from signing the Compris de Vente.
Any help/advice/suggestions gratefully received.

Hi
I see that you joined the forum in 2015 but have not asked for advice before today.
Perhaps if you had done then you would have been better prepared with a week to go to the Compromis de Vente.
The diagnostic report should include guarantees of treatments including Termites woodworm and rot.
If it does not have such guarantees then you should withdraw and reconsider your position.
You can get specialist companies to assess the property for treatment and or replacement of timbers.
In the worst case scenario, the building may be at risk of collapse.
You should also check the condition of the fosse septic (if there is one) and any Rights of Way.
If you withdraw then you can a) just walk away or b) reconsider your offer to reflect the remedial works required.
Please note that the notaire (unlike in the UK ) is not your agent in the process and may not offer you advice on how to progress.
Good luck

You've left it rather late in the day to get estimates for remedying all the problems. Only with the companies' binding Devis will you be able to make a reduced offer based on these expenses, and this is unlikely to happen "within a week or so".
Good point about the fosse septique. What did the Diagnostic say about the sanitation? Be aware that fosse septiques cost the earth to replace (5 figures in our neck of the woods).
I would walk away if I were you, if only due to the timber problem....
