Google knows best, the offers change all the time. Quite often you find providers have introductory offers for the first few months and then the tarif increases, so you will have to get your pen and paper out and do the maths to work out which is cheapest in the long term.
I believe that ADSL speed depends on how far your property is from the box thingy that has all the gubbins in it. If you are close to the box your speed should be good, if you're at the end of the line it will be less good. When you change providers they don't come along and install a new adsl line, they simply take over the same line you are already using. So if I have understood this correctly, there would be no reason why you would get a faster speed with one provider than with another, as long as you don't choose a package with some kind of cap on it.
You might or might not also want to consider aftersales support. Some providers have better reputations than others, some can only be contacted by phone, I believe Orange is the only one that officially offers English speaking SAV (at least they used to, I guess they still do) if that is a factor for you.
FWIW I'm with Free at 29,99 a month. Been with them for donkeys and it suits me but you can probably get cheaper these days.

AH! Thank you and for explaining about the fact that ADSL won't change with different providers. I have orange but unhappy with it for 36.99. I shall look at Free. I know I asked about ADSL but I think there are hubs that rely on 4G and possibly 5G for greater speed, and thought they might have competitive prices? Maybe not! You are right about hiking the prices for being with whoever after 12 months.

Yes 4G/5G is probably the way to go in future, you would need to check first what coverage is like where you live.
I actually also have a Lebara pay as you go data sim that I use when I'm away from home, and when I'm at home I keep it topped up just enough to keep it live, as a backup in case the adsl has a wobble (because I need internet for work). I don't notice any difference on the speed, they are both fast.
I am not sure whether any 4G/5G packages include unlimited data? maybe they do but last time I looked into this, they mostly seemed to be capped. Probably the caps are plenty high enough for what I would ever use - even with my PAYG sim, using it for a month without worrying about data I don't think I ever paid more than 30€ a month. One of these days I will sit down and try and work it out and maybe get rid of the adsl and switch to mobile data, but for now I like having the two options.
Please do report back with anything interesting that you find out

Just love that precise technical description. ET you've made my smile of the day. Thanks!
Now I'm just wondering how the conversation would go if you had to take your laptop or PDA in for repair........

Most places are rolling out or have fibre which here is Gpon fibre to the house with Orange. Ours is 2Gb down 1Gb up and it doesn’t matter how far you get from the NRO “exchange”

With orange it’s better to combine your land service with your mobile service in one package.

Free offer PON fibre which means you get a point 2 point fibre and doesn’t use Time Division Multiplexing to share the fibre. But fibre wavelength sharing has made leaps and bounds and 10Gb is already being trialled here.

Anywhere where fibre is will go into a fibre only for new customers soon just like you can no longer get a new phone here now without a livebox sip/voip only unless you are a major business customer that relies on copper for specialised data monitoring service’s

Adsl will go the way of the landline and the radio star.
