You might wish to give some thought to reserving a place for the 2013 grape harvest, which is active generally during Sept/Oct in the SW of France when the weather is still warm.
But get in early, as there are droves of Spanish/Italian/Portugese casual workers who all struggle for a place during that period.

There are canoe companies in the Dordogne always looking for summer labour.
They may require some French language although many customers are English speaking.
