Default Any ideas what this insurance is for?

So I needed to download an attestation d'assurance responsibilité civile, and while I was on the website doing that I noticed that I have other attestations available to download as well. One appears at first glance to be a special insurance in case my house explodes due to an electrical fault (!) and hurts somebody, but this third one is baffling. I can't be bothered to read the contract but if anyone happens to know what it is, that would be most enlightening. It's called Assistance Rapatriement but what's it for? Is it for medical emergencies, or for vehicle breakdown, or next time I get my passport and money and everything nicked in Italy, or what?

Is it an Insurance offered by your Carte Bancaire (Visa/Mastercard)? I believe this includes "assistance" and "rapatriement" in case of problems, although beyond a radius of 50 kms from your domicile sounds odd. If this is so, I could claim if something happened to me in Montpellier, but not in Béziers!
On the other hand, do CBs offer Responsabilité Civile? Isn't it automatically included in a House Insurance? Ours is....
In other words, I don't really know the answer....

Then I've no idea! Our house insurance only covers all the various risks that a house and contents might encounter, and Responsabilité Civile. No Assistance and Repatriement for us, wherever, but I must check our CB contracts to see whether they cover all that.....

I was thinking about CB insurance also.
When we opened our bank account, the various insurances were explained to us but my french wasn't up to following the explanations.
Later on, I read the fine details and realised that we were covered for various risks.
Perhaps that is the same for your house insurance in that there is a menu of insurances that can be bundled alone with the building and contents cover.
That is also what happens in the UK where you normally get 3rd party public liability cover and several others included.
It is worthwhile checking what you are covered for otherwise you will never realise that you can make a claim should the situation arise.
Reading your policy wording, it would indicate that you have travel insurance for possessions if you travel further than 50km.
That perhaps means that you are covered for home contents (money; camera etc) that are taken outside of the home beyond 50km.
There will possibly be a telephone helpline.
Happy reading

Yes it looks like I'm going to have to read the policy doesn't it.
I do remember being very hasty when took the policy out because I'd just had a falling out with my previous insurers and I asked my bank for a quote on a bit of an impulse. Then when it came in signficantly cheaper I thought Oh what the heck let's do it and get shot of XXX, and I wasn't really interested in what the new policy covered beyond making sure it included responsabilité civile and insured the house for if it catches fire or gets demolished by a truck or something - and didn't have the same stupid conditions and exclusions that I'd fallen out with XXX over.

Banks are terrible for selling you insurance you don't need. We took out a mortgage with BNP and they got us to sign for insurances required for the mortgage. Well, to cut a long story short, after a whole load of issues with them I went to a lawyer. Best 250 euros I spent. She went through everything with a fine-toothed comb and after only ONE letter from her threatening legal action to the branch manager cc ing the regional manager, we got it all reimbursed. Crooks.

Yes indeed, I have no illusions about banks helping anyone other than themselves If I hadn't done my homework thoroughly before I went in to ask about opening a business account for a micro entreprise, they would have pushed me into believing I needed the full business account package.
However since they appear to be providing the houeshold insurance I do want I wanted at a better price than I was paying before, I don't mind too much if they snuck a little extra in, and it does look potential usefully since I spend nearly as much time travelling as at home. Or maybe it's part and parcel of their standard household insurance. One day soon I will print off the policy and read it.
