All happening in my old neighbourhood. Too depressing for words.

So sad, I have no words.
Borders are closed for now, and tomorrow schools and uni will be closed too.

Awful, but not surprising. Nothing will be done, and it will happen again.

Is anyone beginning to truly understand who we're dealing with here? This isn't just some extreme religious group. This is a diabolically clever clan of pathological killers hell-bent on destruction - of everything, not just western interests.
Saddening. Truly. But in the face of such very real threats, perhaps Europe's pacifist, capitulative mindset may begin to change. Or at the very least, become less critical of anyone else standing up to this scourge.

Like for Charlie Hebdo, I'm too gutted to comment, except to say it wasn't just Paris targeted physically, but the whole of France psychologically, including us in La France Profonde.

Re: Another terrible day in Paris
I heard about the news yesterday as I decided to go to bed. Then I couldn't go. I stayed awake until 1:00 AM, trying to figure out what was happening...I live in the East suburbs of Paris and I was, I'm still horrified and at a loss for words...

I hear already that many US flights to France have been cancelled until further notice.

Re: Another terrible day in Paris
I heard when my husband woke me up at 2.00am having been up since he heard the news late last night.
I was very emotional because only a few weeks ago we were there celebrating our golden wedding and were eating and drinking in similar places.
Curiously enough when we got to our market as usual, early in the morning, the news did not seem to have reached many people. I guess it is because market traders get up early and go to bed early. Also Paris seems to be almost a foreign country in these parts.
Paris and indeed France will never seem quite the same because inevitably intrusive surveillance measures will have to be introduced.
I am not surprised but I am very very sad, and angry.

I entirely agree with you about the European mindset. Unfortunately I think there will be more of the same and not only in France.
Sadly European complacency and mindset has left it in an extremely vulnerable situation which has got to the stage that will now be nighhand impossible to turn around.

I am in tears thinking of so many innocent people being killed and maimed, the fear they went through, and the long lasting distress of family members and friends who survived.
I don't understand why Islamic terrorists have so much hatred to want to do these things, how can they allow themselves to be indoctrinated to be so uncaring about life?

One of the really worrying things about this is that one of the terrorists killed was carrying a Syrian passport and passed through the Greek island of Leros last month.
