Re: Acide chlorhydrique
While on the subject of loos, it might be worth mentioning for those not in the know, that Eau de Javel (bleach) should never be used in the case of septic tanks, as it kills off all the useful bacteria.
The various acids mentioned above aren't good for the infernal mixture, either, except for white vinegar, but then you're in the UK and aren't likely to have a septic tank!

If finding a strong acid is difficult I'd put a cup of vinegar in the toilet either every night before bed, or before leaving for work, every day for a month, before concluding it doesn't work.

I didn't realise there were so many in the countryside, but as bp doesn't live in rural UK (at least I don't think she does!), her loo isn't concerned by my Eau de Javel warning!

We generally do use the loo cleaners without bleach, but they don't seem to clean very well.

Re: Acide chlorhydrique
What are the effective alternatives for cleaning toilets that go to a septic tank please?

Sorry, can't remember the name, but when we had a septic tank here we used one of the many products sold in LeClerc. We were told that they more or less all had the same effect. Carrefour etc also stock the same.
