Tropical Cyclone Kate, is it going to stay out at sea???
 

Tropical Cyclone Kate is presently wandering around the top of Queensland heading seaward towards Cairns...

Wonder if it blows itself out or goes out to sea before it reaches Brisbane?

Its being monitored but noone at work is desperately concerned (yet!) - not ikely to hit Brisbane though.

It is very very unlikely to reach Brisbane, most cyclones cross the coast before they get this far south, doesnt mean that we dont feel the effects of it though if it does come down this way. But as for actually hitting Brisbane, only a minute chance of that ever happening. Never say never, but very slim, all the same.

Im hoping it heads south so that we get some rain from it, we havent had a decent cyclone/rain depression/monsoonal trough for about 5 years now - thats why we're in the grip of the worst drought in 100 years! :(

We are almost out of our wet season when we traditionally get about 80-90% of our rain & we have got bugger all so far - it's not looking good!!! :scared:

Rain!!! there seems plenty about today Cyclone or no Cyclone.

Hope you are going to email every expat Pollyana when there is a real threat and give us the heads up.

The Gold coast dam is at 85% capacity and they have said that if they get any more rain they will have to let some of it out. So watch out if you live downhill of the Heinze dam.

Warning re tides -
"King tides are predicted along North Queensland on Monday 27 February 2006.
All other locations along the east coast of Queensland will experience water levels similar to those experienced in late January 2006. These high-tides will be close to or exceed Highest Astronomical Tide (HAT).

Tropical Cyclone Kate (992 hpa) is currently about 310 km northeast of Lockhart River, and moving to the east-southeast at about 8 km/hr. TC Kate is not expected to move appreciably over the next 48 hours. If this system continues to develop over the weekend, there is high potential that water levels along North Queensland will exceed HAT causing inundation of low lying areas and beach erosion."

And we still have water restrictions. Why do they moan about 85% when obviously 100% would be dangerous and unwanted.

Better sort itself out before March 5th we are supposed to be doing a clean up the sea/beach dive off Scarbourgh somewhere and having a bbq at the same time.

Bet the Brisbane dams or still empty they mangage to miss all the rain. Will watch to see where the king tide gets to... I'm suprised it was the English who always talked about the weather as the Aus weather sure is more interesting.

we are central queensland still good being up on a hill tho lol.....we visited some new land developements the other week....people that buy plots there must be off their heads....its a bloody flood plain ...lovely being close to the beach, but u can be too close lol

OK found you next to Rockhampton... yes like the look of some of the costal property but then you notice it is at sea level and think it just takes a good storm not a tsunami to wreck them.

Hills is starting to look more and more appealing but even then they have storm problems and often greater lightening and fire risk... :( :scared: .

we have no risk of fire......as the trees are way up the hill, got a really good plot and still has a small sea view :D
