Pyrolytic Ovens...

Pyrolytic Ovens...
Does anyone have one? Do they work? Do you still have to have a major clean or is it really a simple wipe down? Are they worth the added expense over a similar quality, bog standard oven? Our current oven needs replacing and I'm not sure whether to replace like for like or upgrade.

Dunno - we bought a Miele and installed it in our new kitchen but then left the country unexpectedly and never had chance to try it! I'm hoping it works if and when we get back

Thanks for that.

Re: Pyrolytic Ovens...
We put a Miele in our build. Every time we switched it on it said "Pyrolytic recommended"! After six years it as flashing the display; pulling the CB and rebooting it allowed its use for 24 hrs then the same.
Turns out it's a known fault! The "oxgyen sensor" (??) had to be replaced for a mere $850. The "oxygen sensor" as far as I can research is only used in the steam oven versions.
Mrs Wol keeps it spotless so have never tried the pyrolytic function, which would probably black out most of Bowral.

IIRC all shelves and racks have to be removed. This may help...http://blog.estrading.com.au/bid/552...w-Does-it-Work

Re: Pyrolytic Ovens...
And don't forget the glass door. That's harder to clean than the shelves IMO. My Bosch oven has self-cleaning sides and back and they do work. If I'm not using the oven floor heating element then I keep a non-stick cover in place to catch any spills. We have had to replace one heating element (of the 3) in 8 years, but we did ourselves for about $100. I think the pyrolytic option is a tad overpriced and haven't regretted not getting it.

Re: Pyrolytic Ovens...
Thanks for that, sounds like a good middle ground. $1,600 seems a tad ott for an oven especially as I'm not the one cleaning it . Our current glass door is a pain in the arse. Double glazed but no seal at the bottom so the husband has to take the door off and wriggle a cloth up between the two and drag it around. Bloody silly design.

Wire racks and side rails need to be removed. You can buy a special rack to fit so that the solid racks can be used in cleaning mode, but I just put them at the bottom
It works well and really does clean - just leaves a white powder behind

We have a Bosch steam oven too which is fantastic

Re: Pyrolytic Ovens...
I use selley's tough oven wipes on my aging oven. They work quite well. It is the racks which take the time.
