For the cyclone watchers out there - Tropical Cyclone Gillian moved across the Gulf, across the Top End and out to the west of Australia.
And intensified to become Australia's second category 5 Tropical Cyclone for season 2013/2014 (Bruce was our first). It took only 36 hours to intensify from a category 1 to a category 5. That puts it near the top in the list of the fastest intensifying tropical cyclones in recorded history  She was fortunately only a Cat One as she passed Christmas Island. A category one cyclone has battered Christmas Island, forcing the evacuation of one family and causing damage to homes. The tiny island community, which includes an immigration detention centre, is now on red alert. |
