TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 11 Issued by the Bureau of Meteorology, Brisbane Issued at 10:54am EST on Sunday the 30th of January 2011

The Cyclone WARNING has been extended to coastal and island communities from Cardwell to Sarina.

At 10:00 am EST Tropical Cyclone Anthony, Category 1 was estimated to be
440 kilometres east northeast of Townsville and 335 kilometres northeast of
Bowen.
Tropical Cyclone Anthony is currently moving southwest and is expected to
continue moving in this direction. It is likely to intensify slightly as it
approaches the Queensland coast.

DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS are expected to develop about coastal and island
communities close to the cyclone centre as it approaches the coast late tonight.

DAMAGING WIND GUSTS are expected to develop about island communities this afternoon, developing over coastal parts between Cardwell and Sarina late today and overnight.

As the cyclone crosses/approaches the coast abnormally high tides are expected between Townsville and Bowen. Large waves are likely along the beachfront between Townsville and Sarina.

HEAVY RAINFALL with LOCAL FLOODING is expected to develop about the coast and adjacent inland near and to the south of the cyclone, extending as far south as Sarina, overnight and continuing through Monday.

People between Cardwell and Sarina should complete preparations quickly and be
prepared to shelter in a safe place.

Current estimate is a crossing between AYR and HOMEHILL approx 10pm tonight (local time).

Winds could reach 140 km/hr and there could be 400mm of rain in it.

Sand and sand bags are available for residents at the SES headquarters at Green Street in West End.

A public cyclone shelter will be available in the underground car park of the State Government Building from noon TODAY at 98 Stanley Street, City to provide shelter to those without safe housing. Toilets and water will be available but you must BRING YOUR OWN bedding, food, medicines and supplies.

The city's landfills are open for free dumping today.

The Cyclone WARNING is now current for coastal and island communities from
Lucinda to Sarina.

At 7:00 pm EST Tropical Cyclone Anthony, Category 2 was estimated to be
225 kilometres east southeast of Townsville and 75 kilometres east northeast of
Bowen.

At 8:00pm the cyclone is estimated to be
205 kilometres east southeast of Townsville and
50 kilometres east northeast of Bowen.

Tropical Cyclone Anthony is currently moving southwest towards the southern
Herbert and Lower Burdekin coast. The system is forecast to cross the coast near
Bowen in the next couple of hours.

DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS are currently occurring about island communities close to
the cyclone centre as it approaches the coast and will develop about coastal
communities between Ayr and Mackay in the next couple of hours.

DAMAGING WIND GUSTS are currently occurring about coastal and island communities
between Ayr and Sarina and could also develop about coastal communities between
Lucinda and Ayr tonight.

ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES are expected between Ayr and Mackay. LARGE WAVES are
likely along the beachfront between Townsville and Sarina.

HEAVY RAINFALL with FLOODING is developing about the coast and adjacent inland
near and to the south of the cyclone, extending as far south as Sarina.

Tropical Cyclone warning is now CANCELLED

A Severe Weather Warning is current for Damaging Winds and Flash Flooding
For people in parts of the Central Coast and Whitsundays, northern Central Highlands and Coalfields and Central West districts.

Heavy rainfall is likely to lead to flash flooding in parts of the Central Coast and Whitsundays and northern Central Highlands and Coalfields. Damaging wind gusts to 90km/hr are also possible in these districts. These conditions are expected to gradually ease during the day. Heavy rainfall is likely to extend into the Central West district during this morning and may lead to localised flash flooding during the day, easing tonight.

A Flood Warning is current for coastal rivers and streams between Townsville and Sarina and adjacent inland catchments. A Flood Warning has been issued for the Pioneer River.
