Default Severe Weather Warning - VIC

Severe Weather Warning
for heavy rainfall
for people in the East Gippsland forecast district
Issued at 5:14 am EST on Monday 6 June 2016.
Weather Situation
A low pressure system off the New South Wales coast will move slowly southwards on Monday morning before moving a little further offshore during the afternoon.

Heavy rain which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible over eastern parts of the East Gippsland forecast district on Monday morning. Heavy rain is expected to ease during the afternoon.

Highest recorded rainfall totals for the 42 hours to 4am are:

130mm at Gabo Island

127mm at Mallacoota

127 mm at The Gorge

111mm at Mount Delegate.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

The next warning will be issued by 11:00 am EST Monday.
This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts; the Bureau's website at Australia's official weather forecasts & weather radar - Bureau of Meteorology or call 1300-659-217*.

The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.
