Severe Weather Warning / Flooding - Flinders, Riverland SA

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING

for HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in the
Flinders,
Riverland,
North East Pastoral and parts of the
Mid North districts.

Issued at 9:03 am Saturday, 10 January 2015.

A low near the northern border of South Australia is expected to move south during Saturday and Sunday to be south of the SA coast on Monday. This system is combining with a tropical airmass to produce a significant rain band over northeastern parts of the State, and this is forecast to extend southeastwards over eastern districts this morning.

Heavy rain is forecast across the warning on Saturday, with the North East Pastoral and Flinders districts likely to experience the heaviest rain and largest totals. Thunderstorms are also possible over the North East Pastoral.

By midnight Saturday, rainfall totals of 30-80 mm are likely over the Flinders and North East Pastoral, with some falls of 80-150 mm possible, particularly in central parts of the North East Pastoral. This rain is likely to lead to widespread flooding. Locations which may be affected include Marree, Hawker, Leigh Creek and Moomba.

Elsewhere within the warning area, falls of 20-40 mm are possible, which may also lead to local flash flooding. Locations which may be affected include Clare, Jamestown and Renmark.

Severe weather is no longer expected in the Eastern Eyre Peninsula and Yorke Peninsula districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water;
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.

The next warning is due to be issued by 12:05 pm.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at Australia's official weather forecasts & weather radar - Bureau of Meteorology or call 1300 659 215. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly
