TC Yasi now expected to cross the coast at 1am near Cairns. It is getting faster and more intense.

TC Yasi could still be category 3 at Atherton Tablelands, and the equivalent of cat 2 at Mackay.

all FNQ schools will be closed from Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Notes coming home today.

additional flights will be scheduled. Contact airlines to let them know If you want to book a seat.

Cairns hospital may be evacuated later today.

some mandatory evacuations may be undertaken today. Please cooperate with police and emergency services.

TC Yasi expected to cross as an upper level category 4, more intense than Larry, and much larger.

You need to take action today if you are in the path. This is a life threatening event. Please relocate if you are in a storm surge area.

Thanks for that, found a link on there with a property search for a storm tide prone area report, says we should be ok. We are near the river though We're all ready here, everything moved indoors, just to put the wheelie bins in the garage, just hoping everyone else is doing the same

We're all busy here getting everything indoors and ready to move out tomorrow. We're just packing the essentials and going to an apartment complex where my OH works, it's rather more solid than our house! Poor cat is possibly going to have to spend the night in his cat box - he hates it at the best of times but at least he'll be safe! Not sure whether we will be able to stay in one of the apartments, waiting from an answer from his boss, failing that we're going to camp out in a corridor and i'm not joking!

If I waft a newspaper outside the house, do you think I could redirect the cyclone? I could even point a fan or two at it ?

I hope that everyone in the path of this Cyclone has got supplies in place for the next week. People should be prepared for being without power, potentially for up to 1 week.

Torch,batteries,radio, candles
first aid kit
drinking water
some tinned food
fill up your car with fuel.

Obviously this is for a worst case scenario, but these basic items aren't hard to put together.
