For people in the BRISBANE CITY, GOLD COAST CITY, LOGAN CITY, IPSWICH CITY and parts of the LOCKYER VALLEY, MORETON BAY, SCENIC RIM, SOMERSET and REDLAND CITY Council Areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:25 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the area between Boonah and Beaudesert, Laravale, Harrisville and Peak Crossing. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Ipswich, Beaudesert, Rosewood, Marburg, Lowood and Fernvale by 4:55 pm and Brisbane CBD, Beenleigh, Logan City, Highvale, Samford and the D'Aguilar Ranges by 5:25 pm.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:25 pm.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Emergency Management Queensland would appreciate warnings being broadcast

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:05 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Toogoolawah, the area north of Gatton and the NSW border. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast to southeast. They are forecast to affect Lowood, Toolara and Tin Can Bay by 3:35 pm and Coolangatta, Esk, Rainbow Beach, Wide Bay, Inskip and Inskip Point by 4:05 pm.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

Unofficial word on the streets is that today (Saturday) could see fast moving and violent storms across the south east of Queensland.

Currently the only warning is the one below, which has been current most of the night, but there were some very nasty cells that built up fast before mving offshore near Moreton Island around 6-6.30 am. More ike that are likely later in the day.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:55 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Maroochydore, Boonah, Caloundra and the area between Boonah and Beaudesert. Thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Beaudesert, waters off Caloundra and waters off Maroochydore by 1:25 pm and Canungra, Mount Tamborine, Tamborine and Jimboomba by 1:55 pm.
They are forecast to affect Marburg, Lowood, northern Lake Wivenhoe and Mount Kilcoy by 1:25 pm and Ipswich, Crohamhurst, Maleny and Conondale by 1:55 pm.
Damaging winds and very large hailstones are likely.
Tennis ball sized hail reported from Buderim.
Very large hail reported at Mooloolah

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:50 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Brisbane CBD, Beenleigh, Logan City, Strathpine, Landsborough, Jacobs Well and the area northwest of Noosa Heads. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Maroochydore, Cleveland, Redcliffe, Caboolture and Caloundra by 5:20 pm and the area southwest of Caloundra, Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach by 5:50 pm.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

A 139km/h wind gust was observed at Upper Coomera at about 15:00 AEST, with very large hail.
3-4cm hail was recently observed at Samford Valley.

Dangerous thunderstorms set to impact parts of south east Queensland

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) are urging residents within the Logan City, Ipswich City, Scenic Rim and parts of the Brisbane City, Lockyer Valley, Moreton Bay and Somerset Council areas to prepare for severe storms this evening.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has advised very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect the areas of Ipswich, Redbank Plains, Amberley, Rosewood, Marburg, Lake Manchester, Lowood, Fernvale, Mount Nebo, Highvale, Samford and the D’Aguilar Ranges.

A second cell has also been detected and is moving from New South Wales towards Rathdowney.

Residents should bring loose outdoor items indoors and secure items, which can’t be moved, such as swing sets and trampolines. They should also move their car undercover and away from trees and when the storm approaches seek shelter indoors and never under trees.

Always be aware of fallen trees and powerlines. For storm and flood assistance contact the State Emergency Service (SES) on 132 500 and in a life-threatening emergency dial triple zero (000).

SES volunteers respond to hundreds of requests during peak storm activity and ask that those requiring assistance be patient.

Most SES tasks are not quick jobs, and often extensive work and time is required to attend to storm damage, such as tarping roofs, repairing leaks and removing debris. The public is being asked to remember that the SES is made up of volunteers dedicated to helping others and will always put the safety of its volunteers first during adverse weather conditions.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:40 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Maroon Dam, Haden and the area south of Cunninghams Gap. They are forecast to affect Kooralbyn and Aratula by 5:10 pm and Laravale and Rosevale by 5:40 pm.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.
