There were some nasty bits in it, be interested to read some of the stats tomorrow. Lots of gusts of 70-80km/hr across Brisbane, but further west, other side of Toowoomba they were apparently recording over 100 km/hr, with hail of 8-10cm in diameter. Enough to use Emergency Alert for mass warnings, and the SEWS warning sirens which are usually reserved for cyclones.

It was a shocker! Our down pipes couldn't cope, the overflow was like an open fire hydrant! No hail though, thank goodness!

Bit of general info on thunderstorm warnings too, that people may find interesting. Yesterday the Bureau got criticised widely in Queensland for not issuing specific Severe Thunderstorm Warnings early enough.
Individua warnings - as opposed to those general ones they had been issuing over the preceding days - have parameters around them and these must be met before warnings are issued.

http://www.bom.gov.au/catalogue/warn..._SW_STSW.shtml
has more information general to Australia, whilst the Queensland specific page is here -
http://www.bom.gov.au/catalogue/warn...ductsqld.shtml

A severe thunderstorm is a thunderstorm that produces one or more of the following:

A tornado
Hail of diameter 2cm or greater
Wind gusts of 90 km/h or greater
Very heavy rain leading to flash flooding.

See also here for more general info on thunderstorms

Thanks, watching that one coming in very closely right now ... it might be time to get the washing in

P.S. To people criticising the lack of warnings yesterday ... It's Brisbane, it's summer, storms were forecast for a week in advance, why not take some responsibility for yourselves? Jeez, some people want their hands held and their arses wiped these days.

If you need SES assistance in flood or storm, call 132500. In life threatening emergencies always call triple zero.
