Default Seasonal climate outlook

For the weather followers out there......

August to October 2012 outlooks issued today by the Bureau of Meteorology
The rainfall and temperature outlooks for August to October 2012 are now available on the Bureau's website.

Key points
  1. The Pacific is currently near the threshold for El Niño conditions.
  2. Climate models forecast the Pacific to either exceed El Niño thresholds during late winter or spring 2012 or remain at borderline levels. No models suggest a return to La Niña.
  3. During El Niño events, large parts of eastern Australia are typically drier than normal during winter and spring. However, El Niño does not guarantee widespread dry or drought conditions.

Regional outlooks
Northern Australia rainfall: Drier conditions likely for large parts of Queensland
Northern Australia temperature: Warmer temperatures likely outside of the tropical north

Southeastern Australia rainfall: Drier conditions likely for large parts of southeastern Australia
Southeastern Australia temperature: A warmer late winter to mid-spring likely for southeast Australia

Western Australia rainfall: Drier conditions likely for northwest and central parts of Western Australia
Western Australia temperature: A warmer late winter to mid-spring favoured for most of Western Australia

...and just to let you know, a lady rang earlier to say there was a hurricane on the way. Well, don't worry, there isn't.............

Will be interesting to see how it pans out. This will be our third summer here and hopefully a lot less rainfall. Rain is good, but not too much.

Now looks like no El Nino is likely this year. Currently headed towards neutral values

Even so, they are suggesting that temps will be higher than average of the eastern states:

Yep, bit of a turnaround in the last couple of weeks - could be an interesting season
