Stay or go? As we live in the hills and fire is a problem (fire was 200m away last summer) we have decided that we will go. It's only a house and we are over-insured. We'd get a nice new one.

As long as we are all safe I don't give a shit about the house.

Quite agree that is my plan as well, keep insurance up to date and good tires on the car for a fast getaway, it's not worth dying over bricks and mortar. Had this argument the other day with someone who said you should stand and fight for your memories however, I ensure I know where all the important documentation is that needs to be grabbed and I will make a sharp exit, memories can come along in my head (and the PC if there's room) and insurance can pay for the rest.

Why not install a sprinkler system to cover your garden. Then just turn the taps on and run

Might get a fine from counsel due to level 6 restrictions though.

I'll let that burn as well and then that will stimulate regrowth and can landscape during the new build. Would take a hell of a lot of water to damp it all down anyway and think the garden would probably be the reason the house is burning down anyway.

I can imagine you throwing petrol around the place before you go
