I hope your daughters friend is found safe & OK. As Polly has said, the phones will be affected after an event like this so hopefully thats why you havent heard from her. Have you checked google's PersonFinder?

Last year we had the crustal quake in Haiti in Jan'10 followed by the even larger subduction quake in Chile in Feb'10

Now this year we have the crustal quake in Christchurch last month followed now by this much larger subduction quake in Japan.

Weird

Thats all 4 corners of the 'ring of fire' in the last 13 months. (kinda - I know Haiti is a bit of an offshoot)

I hope its just a coincidence.

taly's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology says earth's axis shifted 25 cm as result of the quake and U.S. Geological Survey says the main island of Japan had shifted 2.4 metres.

Is this Mother Natures way of clearing out???? I dont know what to think anymore with all of this?

Heard somewhere about Yellowstone Park too, apparently in 12 months it has moved 6 inches. It has only moved a few CM in 100 years......IS this the next thing to go?

Part of it is better global communication.

Just a few decades ago, if several hundred people were killed by an earthquake in eastern China or a tsunamia in Indonesia for example, the media in the rest of the world would not know about it until several days, or even weeks, later, long after such an event would be deemed "newsworthy". So by the time this information was available, it would probably be relegated to the back pages of the newspaper, if at all. And the Internet didn't even exist. Think back to Mt St Helens in 1980. We are now getting this information almost immediately so it makes it feel like there are more events happening.

I remember reading an article years ago that said if Yellowstone goes, it will take out about 1/5 of continental North America but the one to really worry about was lake Toba in Sumatra which is "yellowstones big sister"
