In some towns we are now in a "worst flood on record" situation.

Get out and do it quick, more coming in later, and yet more tomorrow. Monsoon trough moving south, as well as a trough moving onshore.
Its gonna be a loooooong night again

"We had a similar pattern in 1954 and '55 and also back in 1893 and we've had a few slightly less intense patterns in the meantime - 1988, 2008 and a few intervening years that aren't quite as strong as this."

Professor Stone says this pattern means the risk Brisbane will experience another flood like that in 1974 is eight times higher.

"I know looking at the work we do for the water authorities and other agencies, instead of the risk being about 5 per cent in any year, this year it's about 30 to 40 per cent," he said.

"So the risk is certainly increased. It's not guaranteed, but as with many agencies and insurance agencies and water resource folk working on risk management, we know that the risk is substantially increased in a year like this."

I think we've had about 6 good days since school holidays started. However it's been pretty bloody grey since February 2010 compared to 'normal'. Rainy season is one thing, this is something else entirely If it clears up before March I'll be satisfied!

It is obviously nothing like a normal year...rather than hot with cooling afternoon thunderstorms it has been colder rain going all day. Has been going on and off for months with unusually cool and overcast weather. It was even raining a lot in winter which is usually our dry season. My wife keeps complaining that she has been transported back to the uk (been here 9 years)...I keep telling her the uk was never this wet She even commented this morning that people have started wearing black to work....if this weather keeps up we may get some fashion sense

I was too young to remember the 74 floods but I can't remember a year like this. People who have arrived in the last year or two must be panicking thinking this is normal and packing their bags

This will be a year that is remembered like the 74 floods I reckon. Hope Brisbane doesn't cop it as well...we've been lucky so far Toowoomba looked bad....hope Jen was well clear.

Default The Qld Floods - volunteer work?!

Does anyone know who I'd contact to see if I can assist with the clear up from aftermath of the floods here in Toowoomba?! I feel like I should be doing something especially since I'm still off work?!

I don't 'do' camping and I don't 'do' Wales. I would shoot myself rather than camp in Wales. 5 star hotel in Bristol would be as close as I'd get.

Talking of dirty, I went to Wales and had sex with a minor.

Sorry, miner.
