I'll not go down and see though although you can guarantee there'll be surfers down there to catch a good one

Re: MARINE TSUNAMI WARNING - NSW and QLD
Thanks for the warning. I'm confused by the highlighted bits though. They are as near as dammit one and the same (bar a state border and town name obviously). I think they must have got confused with the EST and lack of in QLD.

The surfers may find they aren't allowed near the beaches ...........

I've never quite worked out how the beaches can be closed properly though. They can put signs up and have the odd sls and police there but the amount of kilometres that need covering, can't possibly keep all the morons away.

You've also got the suburbs down this way where the houses are as near as dammit on the beach (stealing beach and turning it into garden in some cases). They suffered big time with the last storms, no doubt some of them will be having brunch parties to watch for 'the wave' Too many down sides to having a beach side property, tsunamis being one of them.

Emergency Management Queensland said residents in coastal areas of the state's south east should keep off beaches and foreshores on Sunday morning when conditions could be rough.
"Advice from the bureau is that there is the possibility of dangerous waves, strong ocean currents and foreshore flooding for several hours tomorrow morning," Acting Deputy Chief Officer Wayne Coutts said in a statement on Saturday night.

Shouldn't people be more worried about all the small Pacific islands between Australia and South America

Yes, read a bit more, people have been evacuated or moved to higher ground so no problem there then
